West Bengal Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme
This scheme is exclusively for the girls of the state who are at high risk of dropping out and getting married before the legal age. Under this scheme, a cash benefit is transferred to a beneficiary bank account after complete verification of eligibility and documents. The amount of benefit is directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary through the Direct Bank Transfer method. The scope of this scheme is limited only to the girls coming from the weaker section of society. Kanyashree Prakalpa has also received various national and international recognitions for its good governance feature and design.
It is a revolutionary scheme that has brought a huge change in girls’ education in the state since its inception. Kanyashree Prakalpa scheme was launched on 1st October 2013. It is administered and implemented by the Department of Women Development & Social Welfare and Child Development, Government of Bengal with the support of various other departments and institutions.

Objectives of Kanyashree Prakalpa
Kanyashree has the following objectives to safe the rights of girls in the state of West Bengal-
- To empower the adolescent girls of the state coming from financially disadvantaged families by providing them financial assistance so that they can continue their education.
- To reduce the school dropouts cases among the girls coming from poor families.
- To prevent girls from getting married at an early age and discourage early marriages.
- To prevent exploitation and trafficking of a female child.
- To reduce the Maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate by discouraging early marriage.
- To eradicate the problem of malnutrition and under-nutrition in the girl child.
Components of Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme
There are two main components of the WB Kanyashree Scheme. A separate amount of assistance is provided under these components. Check details below-
- Annual Scholarship Scheme– This scheme is for unmarried girls of age group 13-18 years enrolled in classes VIII-XII. Under this scheme an incentive of Rs. 750/- per annum is provided to each beneficiary. For this, applicants have to submit a K1 form.
- One Time Grant- The second scheme type is the one-time grant which is for unmarried girls who turn 18 and were engaged in any of the occupation or educational institution.
Eligibility
As it is clear that scholarship has two components under which a separate amount of benefit is disbursed to the beneficiaries and thus it also implies that the eligibility requirements are not the same for the two components of this scheme. For Annual Scholarship (K1)

- Along with the aforementioned criteria, applicants must have a working bank account under their name if they wish to get benefitted under any of the two schemes.
Scholarship disbursement Process
The process of disbursement of benefits under this scheme include simple stages-
- Online Enrolment from School/ Institution
- Validation of Data and Verification of Data by BDO/SDO
- Documents and Data Validation and Application Sanction at DPMU/ DSWO
- Verification of Account by the Bank
- Disbursement Process at Bank
- Disbursement successful by the Bank / Received by the beneficiary
Documents Required
At the time of application, applicants are required to produce and attach all the documents as specified by the authorities along with the application forms. Check the list of all the important documents shared as under-
- Declaration/ Certificate (as provided by applicants/ parents/guardian or by inmate of Juvenile Justice Homes) of being unmarried. It should be signed by appropriate authority.
- Declaration showing annual family income being less than 1.2 lakhs.
- Declaration by applicant or guardian of parents (both) being deceased. (if applicable)
- Proof of age/ Birth certificate
- Photograph of the applicant
- Certificate of Disability (if applicable)
- Proof showing that applicant is enrolled in an institution
Application Process of West Bengal Kanyashree Prakalpa

- Application forms can be obtained from the concerned schools and institutions/ J.J Homes (in case of inmates) in which they are enrolled.
- For Annual Scholarship schemes, applicants have to fill the K1 application form. K1 application forms are printed on light green paper.
- For a one-time grant, applicants have to obtain a K2 application form. These forms are printed on light blue paper.
- It is the responsibility of school teachers and administrators to fill application forms for all the eligible girls.
- Before submitting applications, applicants must ensure that they are eligible and have all the required documents.
- Applicants have to fill each and every detail with care.
- They have to attach a copy of all the attested documents with the application form.
- After the submission of the application form, an acknowledgement slip will be issued to each applicant. It will include the reference Id which can be utilised to track the application status. Therefore, applicants have to keep this slip safe.
- Once the application will be verified and approved by the concerned authorities, the fund will be transferred to the bank account of the applicant.

- Click on the “Track Application” link given on the homepage.
- Select year, scheme type, Applicant ID, Date of birth and captcha code and click on submit button.

Application fee
All the application forms either generated from the portal or re-printed can be obtained free of cost without making any payment. No, the applicant will be charged by Education institutions against the application form.
Time Line
As per the West Bengal Right to Public Services Act 2013, the time taken for processing of application and payment of scholarship will be no more than 90 days. It means applicants can receive their payments within 90 days from the date of application.

Applicants will be provided K1 and K2 application forms as per their eligibility.
Can I upgrade to K2 from K1 without submitting my birth Certificate?
No, a birth certificate is very important for K2 therefore, applicants not having a valid birth certificate cannot renew or upgrade to K2.
How beneficiaries will know that the benefit has been transferred to their bank accounts?
SMS notification will be sent to the registered mobile number of the applicants about each and every progress of the application and transfer of funds.
Can a girl without a bank account apply for this scheme?
No, the bank account is compulsory to apply for this scheme. Applicants not having a bank account can open a zero balance bank account before application by visiting the nearest bank.
