Types of Karnataka Ration Cards 2023

In the state of Karnataka, four types of ration cards are issued to the public under two broad categories, namely Priority House Hold (PHH) and Non-Priority House Hold (NPHH). These cards are disbursed primarily based on the income levels of the concerned family.

  1. PHH – Priority House Hold Ration Card
    • AY – Annapoorna Yojana Ration Card
    • AAY – Antyodaya Anna Yojana Ration Card
  2. NPHH – Non-Priority House Hold Ration Card
A.PHHAs per the guidelines issued by NFSA, 2013, the households which satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed by the state government will be issued PHH ration cards. Such beneficiaries are allotted food grains and other commodities at subsidized prices. It is further sub-categories into AY and AAY ration cards. 
A.1AYAnnapoorna Yojana ration cards are sanctioned to the poor senior citizens of the Karnataka state. 10 kilograms of food grains are disbursed to such cardholders per month at subsidized rates.
A.2AAYAntyodaya Anna Yojana ration cards are issued to the very poor families of the state, having annual income below Rs. 15000/-. Rice @ Rs. 3 per kg and Wheat @ Rs. 2 per kg is disbursed to such cardholders on monthly basis. 
B.NPHHUnlike the aforementioned categories, this category of Ration cardholders purchases the commodities from the ration shops at 100% economic cost. Such households have a steady income.

Karnataka Ration Card Eligibility

It is mandatory to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the ration card in Karnataka. The families having an annual income of less than Rs. 17,000 in urban areas and less than Rs. 12,000 in rural areas will be considered below the poverty line. Hence, will be eligible to apply for PHH ration cards.

The authorities will prepare a list of selected beneficiaries from all the applications to issue the PHH ration cards. The selected list of beneficiaries will be able to avail the benefits of PHH ration cards. However, the rejected list of applicants will be counted under the category of NPHH.

Application procedure for Karnataka Ration Card?

Interested residents can apply for a new ration card via two methods, online and offline modes. For online mode, the public must apply through the official portal of the State Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department @ahara.kar.nic.in. whereas, visit any service kiosk to apply in offline mode. An online application procedure has been established to apply for a new ration card in the state of Karnataka. The official portal, ahara.kar.nic.in serves the purpose. Check the step by step application procedure described below.

Step I:- At first, you need to go to the official website of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Karnataka. The homepage will be shown. Select “e-Services (ಇ-ಸೇವೆಗಳು) from the menu bar.


Step II:- Clicking on the tab will redirect to a new page. From the left menu sidebar, under the e-Ration card (ಇ-ಪಡಿತರ ಚೀಟಿ) tab, you will find an option of “New Ration Card” or “ಹೊಸ ಪಡಿತರ ಚೀಟಿ”. Click on it.


Step III:- After that, you will be asked to choose the language you wish to submit the application form in. Click on “New Ration Card Request”.


Step IV:- Next, select the type of ration card you desire to apply for, i.e. PHH or NPHH. Make relevant choices from the list that appears.

Step V:- Enter your Aadhar UID number and the registered mobile number. Click on the “Go” icon.


Step VI:- An OTP will be sent to the fed mobile number for verification. Enter the received OTP.

Step VII:- Upon successful verification, click on the option of “ADD” to generate an application number for a new ration card. You will be shown an application form for the same.

Step VIII:- Feed the details asked in the corresponding fields.

Step IX:- Clicking on the “Save” button will submit your application form. Note down your unique application number for future use.

Step X:- The authorities will issue the ration card within 15 days of receiving the application. The applicants can collect a copy of the same by making a payment of Rs. 100 to the concerned department.

Offline Apply for KAR Ration Card 2023

  1. Firstly, visit your nearest Service Kiosk.
  2. With the Aadhar authentication, all the details will be filled in the ration card application.
  3. Choose your suitable fair price shop in the Taluk.
  4. It is advised that all the family members must visit the service kiosk at once, so as to avoid the application fee of Rs. 50/- every time you visit.
  5. According to the NFSA, 2013, the eldest female member shall be considered as the head of the household.
  6. After the submission of the application form, the authorities will verify the documents and survey the house.
  7. Successful verification and inspection will approve your ration card application.
  8. Your copy of the ration card will be sent to the registered house address within 15 days of the application under SAKALA.

Step I:- First of all, you must visit the official website of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Govt. of Karnataka. On the menu bar, click on the tab “E-Services (ಇ-ಸೇವೆಗಳು) as shown.


Step II:- A new page will be displayed. On the left menu sidebar, click on the option of “Show Village List” or “ಹಳ್ಳಿ ಪಟ್ಟಿ” under the e-Ration card (ಇ-ಪಡಿತರ ಚೀಟಿ) tab.


Step III:- As you click, the following dialogue box will appear on the screen. Select your District, Taluk, Gram Panchayat and Village from the respective dropdown lists. After that, click on the “Go” button.


Step IV:- A list of the details fed will appear beneath the box. The list will contain details of the selected list of beneficiaries along with the type of RC issued to them.

Step V:- Search for your name in the list.

Ration Card SMS Number Karnataka

You can avail of the below-mentioned services regarding the Karnataka Ration card through an SMS. You just simply need to send the message in the following format to the number 9731979899. An automated text will be forwarded to the sender consisting of a token number and security code. These particulars must be informed to the nearest service kiosk to submit the application form.


The Government of Karnataka has now mandated the linkage of Addhar UID to the ration cards. To connect both of them, you should visit the official State Food Portal of Karnataka state. Follow the procedure to link your Aadhar card number to your ration card.

Step I:- On the homepage of the Karnataka State Portal, search for the “e-Services (ಇ-ಸೇವೆಗಳು)” tab on the menu bar. Click on it.


Step II:- Clicking on the tab will direct you to a new page. Under the e-Ration Card (ಇ-ಪಡಿತರ ಚೀಟಿ) tab, select the option of “Linking UID (ಯುಐಡಿ ಲಿಂಕ್ ಮಾಡಿ)”.


Step III:- Click on the link according to your region. After that, a new window will appear.


Step IV:- Select the “UID Linking for RC members” option.


Step V:- Enter your Aadhar number in the corresponding field. Click on the “Go” button.


Step VI:- After that, an OTP will be forwarded to the Aadhar seeded mobile number. Enter the exact OTP for verification. Also, enter the RC number in the space provided.

Step VII:- Upon successful verification via OTP, your aadhar card will be linked to your respective ration card.

How to check Cancelled/ Suspended List of Karnataka Ration Card?

To check the cancelled or suspended list of Ration Card applications, the applicants can follow the following procedure.

Step I:- Go to the official website of the Karnataka State Food Department. On the homepage, click on the tab “e-Services (ಇ-ಸೇವೆಗಳು)” available on the menu bar.

Step II:- Under the e-Ration Card (ಇ-ಪಡಿತರ ಚೀಟಿ) option, choose the “Show Cancelled/ Suspended List (ರದ್ದುಗೊಳಿಸಲಾದ / ತಡೆಹಿಡಿಯಲಾದ ಪಟ್ಟಿ)” option as depicted in the image below.


Step III:- Enter the details accordingly. At last, click on the “Go” button.


Step IV:- A list of rejected applicants along with their reason for rejection under their chosen category of ration card will appear on the screen.

Procedure for Amendment Request

In case you wish to make any amendments to your existing ration card, you must follow the procedure described below to serve the purpose.

  1. Visit the official website of the Karnataka Food Department.
  2. Click on the “e-Services” tab available.
  3. Click on the “Amendment Requests” option under the e-Ration Card tab.
  4. Select your region.
  5. Enter your RC number.
  6. Write your request for amendment.
  7. Click on the “Submit” button.
