Numerous citizens do not have rights to their respective properties. Hence, central and state governments are launching various programs to find a solution to this. The newly appointed Chief Minister of Punjab launched a welfare scheme called “Mera Ghar Mera Naam” in a state-level function at Dinanagar. It is similar to the centre’s Swamitva Yojana. This scheme went in favour of the citizens who had houses within ‘lal lakir’. This scheme will furnish a property card for every such citizen. With this property card, they will get ownership rights over their houses for a while. Now, they can easily claim titles to their property which they were prohibited from earlier.

Earlier this scheme was confined to the rural areas, but now, the citizens living within ‘lal lakes in urban areas will also get Property cards issued in their name. The land that can be categorized under village property but is not used for agricultural purposes is said to be within ‘lal lakir’. The ones in villages were covered by this scheme, and now it will also be valid for city areas.

With the recent resignation of Captain Amrinder Singh Gill as Chief Minister of Punjab, Charajeet S Channi was appointed as the new CM. He is aiming at launching various welfare schemes to ensure strong governance. It was hence for benefit of people that he launched “Mera Ghar Mera Naam”. This scheme will be a huge relief to the underprivileged since it will give them ownership rights to homes they are living in for a tenure. Observing the success of the scheme in villages, he extended it to eligible people in cities. This scheme legalizes the claim over areas within the ‘lal lakir’.
