What is AIMS Portal?

AIMS, abbreviated for Accounting Information Management System, is an online web based platform to ease the payroll management and other finanacial work related activities of the Indian Railway employees.

Formerly, known as IPAS- Integrated Payroll and Accounting Sysytem, AIMS maintains records of the salary records, loan and attendence information of the employees along with the other billing details for contractors and employees themselves.

AIMS portal is run and regulated under the supervision of the Accounts and Finance Department of Indian Railways. The whole system is categorized under two modules, viz. Personnel and Financial Modules. The former module is to monitor the payroll, loan, Income Tax, attendance, TA, etc. of the employees, while the latter includes Provident Funds, IC, Pension, Budget, etc.

What is RESS?

Railway Employees Self Service, RESS (रेलवे कर्मचारी स्वयं सेवा) has been designed and developed by CRIS under AIMS Portal. It allows the railway staff and officers to access their employment data digitally.

The users can acquire details about their bio-data, payroll processing, loans, pensions, budgets, health insurance schemes, and many more. To avail of the services offered by the RESS, i.e. Railway Employee Self Service Portal, the Indian Railways employees must at first register themselves at the portal. Points to Remember before RESS Registration
(i) The applicants must ensure that the active mobile number and DOB are updated in the AIMS Portal.
(ii) One-time SMS consent is mandatory to receive the regular SMS alerts.

Step I:- First of all, the employees need to visit the official AIMS portal. Click on the “Employee Self Service” link available on the homepage.

Step II:- A new page will open. Click on the “New User Registration/ नया उपयोगकर्ता पंजीकरण”.


Step III:- Clicking on the link will lead you to the following page. Enter the details required for the registration, such as Employee No., Mobile Number, and Date of Birth. At last, click on the “Submit” button.


Step IV:- Automated system will verify the details fed and forward an initial password to the registered mobile number.

Step V:- The users can now log in to the RESS portal with the employee number and the password sent by the system. Once logged in, the users must change the password for security reasons.

A. Through RESS Online Web Portal

a) Firstly, visit the official website of the RESS portal.
b) Log in to your RESS profile providing your User ID and password.
c) Once logged in, choose one option among the three options available under the “Salary” tab.
d) The three options are- (i) Salary, (ii) Yearly Summary, and (iii) Supplementary Income
e) Choose your suitable option.
f) Fill in the required details.

B. Through RESS Mobile Application

a) On your smartphone, tap on the installed RESS mobile application.

e) Move forward in the process as per the chosen option.

How to Login to AIMS Portal?

Step I:- Firstly, the employees must visit the official website of Indian Railways Accounts and Finance Portal. The following homepage will appear.


Step II:- Click on the link “AIMS- Accounting Information Management System” as depicted in the image below.


Step III:- As you click on the link, you will be redirected to a new page. On the right side of the page, you will find a “Login to AIMS” dialog box.


Step IV:- Enter your User name and password in the corresponding fields. After that, click on the “Submit” button.

Step V:- Once logged in, the employees can access their employment data.

How to Retrieve/Recover the Forgetten AIMS Portal Password?

In case you forgot your login password of the AIMS Portal, check the procedure below to recover the forgotten password.

  • On the log in screen of AIMS Portal, click on the option of “Forgot Password”.
  • A new tab will open.
  • Enter all the employee details asked against the corresponding fields, such as User ID, Emp No., DOB, Bank account number and registered mobile number.
  • Click on the “Generate OTP” button.
  • An OTP will be sent to the provided mobile number.
  • Enter the exact OTP for verification.
  • Upon successful verification, you can change the password of your AIMS Portal account.

Indian Railways Online Grievances System

It is a very helpful feature to raise your concerns and issues regarding the AIMS/ RESS portal. If you have any objection to the portal, you can lodge that complaint through their Online Grievances System to address such issues. Indian Railways Accounts and Finances Department in association with the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances let the users raise their issues and complaints in an easy online manner. Following is the procedure for the same.

Step I:- To complain, you must visit the official website of the AIMS portal first. On the homepage, click on the “Public Grievances” icon as shown in the image underneath.


Step II:- Clicking on the icon will lead you to the official portal of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. The following page will open.


Step III:- Login to the portal with your user ID and password. If you have not registered yourself on the portal before, register yourself first.

Step IV:- Click on the “Register/ Login” icon.


Step V:- The following User Login dialog box will appear on the screen. Enter your details to log in, otherwise, select the “Click here to Sign Up” link to register. Proceed accordingly.


Step VI:- Now, you need to select the “Lodge your Grievance” option under the Grievance tab on the menu bar on the homepage.


Step VII:- After that, a new page will appear. Fill in all the required details, including the description of your complaint in the space provided.

Step VIII:- The authorities will assess your issue or complaint and revert to you at the earliest.

View Grievance Status

The complaint applicants can check the status of their applied complaint online. To view the status of the online complaint, check the following procedure described below for your assistance.

Step I:- Go to the official website of the AIMS portal and click on the “Public Grievances” option. Otherwise, you can directly visit the official portal of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances.

Step II:- At the end of the page, you will find the following sequence of icons. Click on the “View Status” option from them.


Step III:- Enter your registration number and your contact details, mobile number, or email address along with the security code shown. Lastly, click on the “Submit” button.


Step IV:- Your online grievance status will be displayed on the screen.

RESS- Mobile Application

CRIS developed an online mobile application to benefit the Indian Railways employees and operate the AIMS portal on their smartphones as well. The application is named RESS. It assimilates all the features and services offered by the web portal in it. With the development of the mobile version of the RESS portal, it has now become a lot easier for the beneficiaries to conduct online activities on the AIMS/ RESS Portal.
